Deven Turns ONE!!!

We thought this day would never come! I think we were more excited about it than he was. You could just see in his eyes the words "what is going on?" We went to bed fairly late the night before trying to prepare things for family that would be coming the next day. I sang Happy Birthday to him at midnight. (He loves to hear me sing.) He smiled and clapped his hands. That is what he does when he hears songs and music. When we woke up, we sang to him again. We spoiled him by giving him his favorite thing... A bath. He played in there for a while. My mom came by and made homemade tortilla's. Deven loves those. We watched Deven's two favorite movies Aladdin and Lorenzo's song book. Cory groaned because Deven likes to watch them over and over. I thought that was funny. Cory and I said no toys. If you look back a couple of posts you will see why. Both Grandmas forgot, which is ok. We're hypocrites ourselves because we got him a toy too. When it came time to sing and have cake and ice cream, everyone gathered in the livingroom. Grandpa McEwen want to hold him for a bit. Cory announced that every thing was ready and we should blow out the candle. So I went and got him. I said "Come here Baby." Grandpa Mac hates it when I call him that. this picture is him telling me that. It's fun to tease him. Deven had troubles blowing out the candle. He tried. He also tried to grab the flame. It's tradition for the McEwen's to ask how many boy/girlfriends we will/do have if you don't get all the candles blown out at once. We were laughing about that because the candle wasn't blown out completely when Deven tried blowing. As you can see we gave in and let him eat his cake and ice cream how he wanted to. He got a bath after that (which was ok with him) then straight to sleep! What a great birthday!

Brought to you by the letter D

So you know the race that all parents do to get babies to say their name first? Cory and I did that. But instead we did it for each other names. i don't know why...but that is how it worked out. Well...I won! Deven said Da da first! That was almost 6 months ago. Our baby is smart! he made the association that Da da and Deven both start with D. and...so does Duck! How do i know this? We were playing in the bath and I've been trying to get deven to say more words besides Dada, mama and guh guh, and ect...But anyways. as i was saying, I was showing him some bath toys and showing and naming them respectivly. I showed him yellow, red, blue and orange balls. a yellow duck, a brush, and a blue cup. after i showed him the rubber ducky did he try to say it! i thought it was a fluke, so i repeated the respective naming a couple more times. no mistake! "Duh" was said each and every time! now we need to get more consenents in there.
