"Camping"

All day yesterday Deven and Cassie were talking and planning to roast hotdogs and make smores. I told them that we would ask daddy to see if we could do that for Family Home Evening. I couldn't see why we couldn't seeing how I had all the ingredients. Only a small issue; I only had the mini marshmallows. So I made a side salad to go with hotdogs and we were set. We brought all the stuff outside to the fireplace and Cory started the fire. While he was doing that I quickly went to the store to get marshmallows that we could work with.
Cory told me when I was gone stuff happened. Cory cheated and used "Boy Scout Water" to light the fire. He wanted to hurry and get some good coals. After he got the fire going he thought it would be cool to have music for us to listen to. He found some camp songs on his phone. Our wifi is only good in our house. So Cory went as close to the window as he could. While Cory was doing that Deven, wanting be like daddy, grabbed the lighter fluid and sprayed it on the fire. I bet his eyes got huge! Cory came over and gave Deven a swat and talked to him. "I told you to not to touch the lighter fluid. What did you do?" "Touch" I bet he is not going to do that again. He probably will.
We had fun cooking our food. Allie loved the songs that Cory had on his phone. She was bouncing away and singing to the songs. She showed us a new way to eat smores. She showed us that all a smore really is, is a homemade oreo. When she eats oreos she eats the middle first and slowly nibbles at the cookie. That is exactly what she did. She ate the marshmallow and licked all the chocolate off the cookies.
Our dog Neve new something related to food was going on when we all came outside. We had to put Neve in his kennel because he's a big dog. Allie is not sure about him yet. He tries so hard to show that he is friendly. I think it's because he is a big dog and she is a small girl. I told Neve that we would save a hotdog for him for going into the kennel for Allie's sake. Cassie had fun feeding him.
Deven thought when I told him we were going to go roast hotdogs that we were going to go camping. He said, "Ok when we go camping we need to take our stuff with us." I told him that we were not going camping just going to the backyard. He thought that was even better. He's so cute. He also thought that since we were around a campfire roasting hotdogs and marshmallows and we had to tell spooky stories. I smiled at that comment. I told him that we didn't have to but Cory jumped all over that idea. Cory told in a spooky story voice a story that made Neve the hero. Deven wasn't believing it until we showed him "proof". The story was about a bear that came into our yard and Neve chased him off. We have a stone that has a bear track on it that we put in the firepit ground. Deven loves it. He likes to put his foot right on top of it to see how much smaller his foot is to the bears'. So he knew what Cory was talking about when he mentioned it. I could just see the cogs turning in his head after that. 'Did that really happen?' was written all over his face.
I wish that I had pictures but I didn't think that they would turn up. So writing down the memories is what I have to preserve that moment in our lives.
